DESCRIPTION:Kevin DeLuca will share his research on the political and cultural role of images in the U.S. environmental movement.  He will focus on Ansel Adams and the Wilderness Act, 19th century photographs such as those by Carleton Watkins and their role in conservation, as well as more contemporary work.  The program is presented as part of a Utah Humanities Research Fellowship award.

DESCRIPTION:At this event at the Salt Lake City Public Library, Charlotte Mangin, creator of UNLADYLIKE2020, a multimedia project featuring women who changed America at the turn of the 20th century, will present her research on Utahn Martha Hughes Cannon, the first female state senator, and Zitkala-Ša, Native American author, civil rights activist, and musician whose Sundance Opera was first performed in Vernal. Mangin will speak about the creative process of telling these extraordinary women's stories through animated documentary films, and screen the UNLADYLIKE2020 trailer and preview of the pilot episode. Following the presentation, Neylan McBaine, of Better Days 2020, will moderate a panel discussion with two Utah legislators, who will share their experiences as female politicians and reflect on the legacy of Cannon, and scholar Jane Hafen, who will speak about Zitkala-Ša's influence on the Native American community. There will also be an audience discussion and Q&A.
