Samuel A. Wells is a Utah native hailing from Utah County. He was introduced to insects, wildflowers and birds by a passionate high school biology teacher and he has been captivated (and addicted) to Utah biodiversity ever since. He received both BS (Zoology) and MS (entomology) degrees from BYU and later a Ph.D. (also in entomology) from Colorado State University.
During his early career, Sam worked on developing alternatives to synthetic insecticides and then accepted a teaching position at Southern Utah University where he currently teaches entomology, Southern Utah flora, freshwater biology, etc. He and a colleague also teach a course of their own creation that they call, "exploring the humanities through nature."
Sam has named over 30 species of insects, loves to read and climb mountains, and writes poetry as autobiography and catharsis.
